Version 1.0 (18/4/2008)
TJ Clean is a simple, clean cut yet feature-full WordPress theme which is great for sites where content is king. Ideal for personal blogs as it includes integration with Flickr (photo sharing), Last.FM (music sharing) and status updates from Facebook/Twitter (and others). Also unlike many themes its XHTML Strict 1.0 and Valid CSS 2.1.
Inspired and based on Derek Powazek’s Depo Clean Theme.
Compatible with WordPress 2.0 – 2.8.x (and maybe earlier)

1. Download tj-clean-wordpress-theme.zip and extract.
This is a good time to customize your color/footer options. See here. However you can also do it later.
2. Upload the ‘tj-clean’ folder and all its contents to: yoursite.com/wp-content/themes/
3. Login to your WordPress admin yoursite.com/wp-admin and activate the theme in the ‘Design’ tab.
The theme will now be working, but it will not have its full functionality.
4. You now need to download and install the following plugins and edit the following settings.
Most of the theme is black, white or grey however there are areas of color. Wherever you have a link color is used to highlight and the RSS Feed icon is colored. The default theme (seen here) unedited is using the Orange color theme.
Color Options
Included in ‘tj-clean’ directory is a CSS file for each color (‘styles.css’ is Orange as its in use). For example to make the text highlight Blue not Orange, rename (or remove) ‘style.css’ to ‘style-orange.css’, then rename ‘style-blue.css’ to ‘style.css’. Thats it!
The same system can be used to change the RSS Feed icon color. In ‘tj-clean/images’ there is a Feed icon to match each color option. Just rename the gif file you want to use to ‘feed.gif’.
More options to come…

Firstly, thanks for your wonderful work,it’s really a nice one!
But I’ve a little problem now, perhaps you could give me some help,OK?
After following the guide what you gave,The Facebook-Part in my Blog still doesn’t work well, and I really don’t know how to fix it.
The second one is if I want to change the Flickr-Part to my Picasa web album, and how to do it?
OK.Waiting for your reply and Big Thanks anyway…
Yes, I’m happy to help – great to see your using it
Which facebook part are you talking about? In the footer the facebook ‘Block’ has to be hardcoded in. That means you need to go into the footer.php file in the templates and link it to your facebook profile – or where-ever.
You are using Twitter currently for status – so I’m guessing you dont want to use facebook status?
I haven’t looked into using Picasa. It would mean finding a wordpress plugin (not widget) for Picasa that works well. Ill look into it.
If you can explain more about your facebook problem I can help.
Well,Big Thanks for your reply!
I’ve got what you said about the Facebook-Part in the footer.php, and now it goes what i want
But now,i have another questions about the title of each post. When i type English Letter as the title,it goes well just like your live demo site;when i chose chinese letter,it shows well in Firefox but not so good in IE7.This is one of the links for testing:http://www.wongc.com/archives/171
so,how to fix it please? Thanks again…
oh~~almost forget something else~~~
how do you make your Archives-part(in the bottom of the page) working well? Mine is always showed as “404″:http://www.wongc.com/archives/
and how do you make the theme to pass the Valid of Xhtml/CSS,but mine is always failed
now you see,i’m really a new-bee here, but i really want to learn something from you
anyway,thanks for your great work!
I looked at that Chinese post title in IE7 and it looks exactly the same as firefox. So I don’t understand what is wrong.
To make the archives (and sitemap) work: Create a new wordpress page in /wp-admin/page-new.php name it “Archives” (or sitemap) and then choose “page template” and select the template named “Archives” (or sitemap). Then publish the page. It now should work.
The theme is valid. Its your other plugins that are causing it to be invalid. The plugins I have said to install are all valid. BUT The sociable plugin that has the ‘digg, delicious, facebook, google, etc’ images at the end of the post is not. Disable that and see if its better.

You might want to remove the __MACOSX folder from the zip file
Looks like Depo Skinny by Derek Powazek?

Nice simply theme but pro looking – thanks, getting it setup. It could do with the basics, maybe as an option so not to clutter the page (at the bottom), archives, categories but no bloody tag cloud
No Flickr yet, have it hooked to favorites – maybe that is why.
Hi Craig. Thanks for using my theme! I have a tag cloud on the archive/404 page see http://www.typemismatch.com/about/. For help with flickr issues check the plugin author site http://eightface.com/wordpress/flickrrss/.

Hi Theo! Awesome theme.
Question –
1 – How do I take out the “Sounds I Like” section? I don’t use last.fm..
2 – Also, is it possible to link the Facebook button to a Facebook page or group instead of an use profile? I plan to blog anonymously.
3 – Is it possible to take out the Status section on the top? and replace the Facebook icon on the bottom with a Twitter icon?
Please let me know by email! Thanks!
Thanks for using the theme Stephanie. All of those things are possible, but involve editing the templates.
1. You need to edit footer.php in the tj-clean folder. Delete everything from the start until class=”footer”
2. The facebook icon can link to anywhere. Just edit footer.php and change the # to the url a href=”#” title=”My Social Network”
3. You need to edit header.php in the tj-clean folder. Delete div class=”status” until 2nd /div. You need to find a twitter icon that will fit, this will mean making your own. Then name it facebook.gif and replace the file in tj-clean/images.
Excellent theme
I moved off wordpress, and loved your theme so much, that when I wrote my own blogging app from scratch, I ported your theme to it and made it the default theme
Check http://yuvisense.net. It’s also up at github (http://github.com/yuvipanda/HiSlain). Have to do more cleanup work though
Thanks for releasing this as CC!
I’m honoured. That is awesome.
Thanks for sharing this theme Theo. Loved this and using this theme for my blog ( link provided in the form).
Best wishes.
My pleasure, love to see people using it. I plan to update it sometime soon.
Thanks, will be looking forward to the update. Say, I’ve noticed that the Last.fm records do not get populated, I’m assuming that this is a problem with Last.fm records plugin ?
I believe a recent update broke support, I haven’t looked into it yet.
Ah I see. Thanks, hope you can spare some time to fix this (no hurries

You’re very welcome. Sorry it’s a bit out of date now.
